Cloud Sight vs CloudHealth, Cloudability, and DIY
Honest comparison. We are aimed at mid-market engineering teams (typically $50K to $500K monthly cloud spend) who want anomaly detection and attribution working in 10 minutes. If you are a Fortune 500 with a 12-person FinOps team, you probably want CloudHealth or Cloudability. If you have one platform engineer with time, DIY is real.
| Cloud Sight | CloudHealth | Cloudability | DIY (CloudWatch + Cost Explorer) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Time to first useful insight | 14 days (free audit), 1 hour after IAM role | 4 to 8 weeks (typical onboarding) | 6 to 12 weeks (consultant-led) | 2 to 4 engineer-weeks to build dashboards |
| Setup | Read-only IAM role + service principal. No agents. | Cross-account roles, payer account onboarding, support tickets | Account onboarding plus consulting hours | CUR setup, Athena, QuickSight, custom Lambda for Azure |
| AWS + Azure in one view | Yes, day one | Yes, with multi-account onboarding | Yes, with extra modules | Build it yourself |
| Anomaly detection | Daily, per service per account, hand-reviewed before alert | Threshold and ML, configurable | Threshold rules, no per-service ML out of the box | CloudWatch billing alerts (account-wide thresholds) |
| Attribution by team / service | Tags + account rules + custom regex | Tags + business mappings | Tags + business mappings + Apptio TBM | Build a tag policy, write a Lambda |
| Pre-spend forecast | Yes, with budget tracking and Slack alert at threshold | Yes | Yes | Cost Explorer forecast (account level) |
| Remediation playbooks | Yes, written by infra engineers, per anomaly type | Recommendations, generic | Recommendations, generic | Read AWS docs, write a runbook |
| Pricing model | Flat fee, banded by spend. No percentage. | Percentage of cloud spend (typical) | Percentage of cloud spend, plus services fees | Engineer time + tooling licenses |
| Pricing visible on website | Yes | No (talk to sales) | No (talk to sales) | N/A |
| Sales process | Self-serve. Free audit, no card, no call. | AE + SE + procurement, weeks | AE + SE + procurement, weeks | Internal |
| Best for | Mid-market eng teams on AWS + Azure | Large enterprise, deep multi-cloud | Large enterprise, FinOps + ITFM | Teams with dedicated platform engineers |
When CloudHealth is the right call
You run multi-cloud at the $5M+/year scale, you have a FinOps team dedicated to it, and you need governance features (budget approvals, chargeback workflows, complex business mapping) that we do not build. CloudHealth is a serious enterprise tool. Be ready for the sales cycle and the percentage-of-spend pricing.
When Cloudability is the right call
You want IT financial management beyond cloud (Apptio TBM, on-prem cost allocation, application-level cost) and you have a CFO ready to buy the broader Apptio suite. Cloudability is solid inside that ecosystem. If you only care about cloud spend, the surface area is more than you need.
When DIY is the right call
You have a platform engineer who can spend two to four weeks on it and a culture that maintains internal tooling. CUR + Athena + QuickSight will get you 70% of what we do for the cost of an engineer quarter. The hard part is keeping it current as AWS adds services and your tags drift. Most teams build it once, then nobody owns it.
When Cloud Sight is the right call
You run AWS and Azure (and maybe GCP), you spend $50K to $500K a month, you got a surprise bill last quarter, and you do not have a dedicated FinOps person. You want anomaly detection working tomorrow and a flat fee on the invoice. Free 14-day audit gets you the findings before you commit to anything.
